Boxwood - Abstract - by artist ~ANTBoxwood

by ~ANT

I approached David Smeltzer DDS, MS, LLC about artwork for his office.  I specifically asked Dave for this job because I knew it would be a challenge.  Dave and I don't have the same tastes in artwork, nor do I often create artwork that is in his style.  To create something for Dave's office would be to create what I have never done,  including examining how I view art, my approach, and what I could learn to become a better artist.

Incorporating the colors that are currently in the office, my idea of Boxwood is the mixture of a silhouette of an oak tree sans leaves and the pastel "squared" artwork currently hung on the wall.   I created the leaves by painting box after box, connecting these boxes into shapes and patterns.  I looked to push the idea of using squares on something so natural, yet keep the natural tranquil feeling.

Dr. Smeltzer and I worked on this project via telephone and email. I came up with a design from the digital photos he took and then emailed me. Soon, I was sending him progress reports of the paintings with pictures which we discussed and adjusted according to his vision. I never physically saw Dr. Smeltzer's office or the paintings until a year later. How crazy cool is that?
